GEN (NZ Government Economics Network) was first incorporated on 16 May 2013 and re-registered as an incorporated society under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, effective 18 March 2026.

This re-registration ensures GEN continues to operate in full compliance with the updated legislative framework governing incorporated societies in New Zealand. GEN also retains its status as a registered charity under the Charities Act 2005.

The constitution sets out GEN’s purpose, structure, and how it operates. GEN’s vision is excellent government policy supported by robust economic analysis and advice. To achieve this, GEN is committed to strengthening economic capability and professional development across the public sector, building connections between economists in the public, private, and academic sectors, and facilitating debate and discussion on economic and public policy research.
